Toonik Tyme is named after the ‘Toonik’, an individual of the Tuniit people. It is a cultural festival that celebrates the arrival of spring with traditional activities that reflect Inuit traditional knowledge. The festival events include but are not limited to snowmobile races, music nights, dog sledding, skijoring races, Igloo building, seal hunts, ice sculptures, seal skinning competitions etc. These events are highly anticipated by the whole territory. They bring the community together to share our unique culture with visitors who get to participate in the activities and recreational games that reflect and preserve our values and heritage.
